MILAN — The French ice hockey federation suspended the player who fought Canada's Tom Wilson at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on Monday.
The federation declared that Pierre Crinon would not play against Germany in the qualification round on Tuesday because of what he did after the incident. If France makes it to the next round by surprise, he won't play either.
With seven minutes left in Canada's 10-2 win against France on Sunday, Crinon and Wilson got into a fight. Fighting constitutes a game misconduct under International Ice Hockey Federation regulations, therefore Wilson and Crinon were kicked out. In the NHL, it's a 5-minute major penalty.
The IIHF wasn't penalizing either player any more than kicking them out.
Wilson and Crinon got into it, and Crinon hit Canada teammate Nathan MacKinnon in the jaw with his left forearm, which put him in trouble.
Canada's next game is on Wednesday in the quarterfinals against either Czechia or Denmark.
